Homeowners insurance does not cover flooding!

Yep, yesterday was a wet one, and if you got water in your basement you are not alone.  I live at the top of a hill and still got water in my newly finished basement.  You don’t even know how mad I was this morning when I went downstairs.  Just yesterday before the storms rolled through we moved our area rugs and couches downstairs, went to bed at 2 am thinking we were safe, woke up with a river running through the middle of everything.

This morning we have had several calls and has made me sad to tell people that the flood insurance they turned down is the coverage that would have taken care of the damages.  Homeowners insurance does not cover flooding, and when a rain storm rolls through, unless the storm tears a hole in your house then floods you out, your not covered.  You have to pick up some flood insurance.

Depending on what flood zone you live in, preferred policies start as low as $119 for the year.
