No one likes to think it can happen to them, but over 2,000 children are reported missing each day. Authorities say the single most important tool in helping to find a missing child is a good quality photograph. In fact, one in seven missing children featured in a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) photo distribution program is recovered because of that photo. Of course nearly all parents have photographs of their children, but most do not have suitable photographs for release to law enforcement offices and press should their child become missing.
“Almost every parent I meet has photos of their children, but not the right type,” explains Travis Gensler, owner of Travis Gensler & Associates, a Farmers Insurance Agency on Lexington Avenue. “The photo is one of the most important factors when trying to recover a lost child. If you don’t have a proper photo, or don’t know where one is at, that hurts your chances of recovering your lost child.”
The goal is to help increase the awareness about missing children and provide a Digital ID to local parents along with the m.i.l.k.(Managing Information on Lost Kids) software to help protect the children of our community. The m.i.l.k. Digital ID program was designed to provide parents and caregivers a convenient location to store a digital photo and identification information regarding their children. Every six months the software will remind the parent to update the photo in the Digital ID. In the event of an emergency, the Digital ID can be printed or sent via email to the proper authorities and forwarded to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The m.i.l.k Digital ID is called the “First Step in the Amber Alert”.
Travis Gensler & Associates will be offering the program at the Farmers Insurance booth at the Santa-Cali-Gon Festival located on the Independence Square in Independence, MO from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1st.
